Freedom Culinary Culture

Proudly African Nova Scotian

A new and unique culinary and cultural experience recently opened on the Halifax Waterfront. Freedom, a first-of-its-kind kiosk dedicated to celebrating the heritage and creativity of African Nova Scotian communities, officially launched on July 1 at the Salt Yard on the Halifax Waterfront.

Rooted in food, storytelling, and community empowerment, Freedom offers handheld comfort food inspired by traditional African Nova Scotian dishes — including signature wings, fried Brothers pepperoni, blueberry grunt and more. The kiosk also features a retail section showcasing locally made artwork, crafts, books, and products from African Nova Scotian artists and makers.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a taste of African Nova Scotian cuisine while supporting a broader movement rooted in community empowerment.
